 Getting Beyond Luring

1 min 58 sec

Luring can be one of the hardest steps to get over, if we stay in the luring phase too long.  This can be a very common mistake amongst dog trainers, and is one that should always be in the back of our mind.

Always advancing within the session, or sequence, we want to take advantage of our repetitious and consistent approach.  Again, with the help of rhythm, we can easily advance the luring behavior, with the help of consistent marking as well.

Below you will see and example of how we fade the food lure, for a simple hand lure.

Example of Fading the Food Lure

The first thing you will want to note about the above session is the use of rhythm.  The pace is fast, and working in a relatively high drive state for this dog.

Note that within the sequence, the food is seamlessly faded for a simple hand lure.  This is easily done because of the consistency, and channelling of the high state of drive in the dog.

Within these same principles, the same would be applied to the following session with the dog in the attempt to fade the hand lure for leaning gesture, for example.  Always working within a session, you will find that making slight advancements in the behavior will be much easier that trying to start a session with an advancement.
