Reward Placement & Competitive Posture

By this time in the course we should all know our dogs pretty well, and after taking a look at the options available to us through reward placement, have an idea of which placement might suit our dog best. For this assignment, pick a placement that you feel you'll be using regularly from here on out and demonstrate it with your dog. If your dog is a 'foodie' please use food. If he or she goes crazy for toy, then let's see that! You can demonstrate this placement from a static position or with slight movement in heel position.

As well, I'd like to see the competitive posture you'll be evolving to as you move forward. If you're venue is AKC, let's see some broken wing followed by your reward placement. If you're IPO, Ringsport, or other, I'd love to see that position, too.

Week 3 Assignment #2

Movement - Straight or Circles

2 min 49 sec

It is likely that we'll use different placements for different situations, for example: an overhead placement on straight line heeling patters and a run ahead placement out of right turns. Or perhaps one placement will assist all of your heeling needs. Hopefully after this week you understand the benefits of the placements and how to use them.

This assignment is about posture, moving heeling, and reward placement. I'm looking to see that your dog understands the criteria for heel position and that you can demonstrate an effective reward placement in motion. If your dog isn't ready for circle work yet, no problem, simply demonstrate a smooth reward placement or delivery (of your choose) from some easy, straight movement; feel free to use a barrier if needed. If your dog is ready for it, take your heeling into a circular pattern and demonstrate your preferred reward placement form there, too. Remember, train to your individual dog and have fun with this!
