Yay! This sit-stay is something we have worked hard on over the last year, as opposed to luring, which was brand new.
Khina would like to chase joggers, so I have worked on sit-stay in fields with me running towards her…away from her…..parallel to….arms flapping etc in hopes to get her more used to joggers being around her –and at the same time proofing her sit-stay.
In this video, we did two full circles (opposite directions), and then two semi-circles—one ending in side/heel position and one coming back to the front.
She did very well considering there were two off-lead dogs playing, running, wrestling about 50-100 m from her (outside our fenced yard). At about 1.30, the dogs barked or came close, and Khina barked ….but she stayed PUT! There was also a beeping truck, some sort of other noise happening as well---all of which can unglue my gal in a split second. But they didn’t. I am very sure that she is less reactive when she is working, which makes this course all the more important for both of us. I am convinced that she has reacted less to a few of her triggers since starting this course---and I think it is because she is mentally tired. She gets plenty of physical exercise, but the mental stimulation really helps her. She worries less. I LOVE that of course!!!! Two strange dogs came bounding up to our back fence the other day. Most of the time she would race over with hackles up ….barking etc. This time, she looked like she wanted to meet them….sniffed one of them through the fence…..and then gave a quick bark/snap…. But then went back to sniffing. Yes, she is definitely ‘guarded’, but she didn’t go bezerk! I was very pleased and proud of her.
