Hi,

My 10 week old puppy has recently started peeing in his crate, when he had been dry up until a few days ago. He just got his distemper vaccine a few days ago, would this have interfered with him? I've been following the 4 week schedule and am ready to go to the 5-8 week, but he is not managing to stay dry for the length of time he is supposed to be in the crate. I even have a box in his crate to make his living area smaller. He is wet when I come down in the morning and is whining when I get to him. 10:30 to bed last night and whined at 6:15. During the day, how can I tell if he is whining to go potty or for attention? He does whine for attention too...Should I stay with the 4 week schedule or move on to the next 5-8 week phase?

Thanks so much

I'm curious to hear what you eventually did. I had a Shihtzu pup that did that too and what I found was that as soon as the sun comes up he would wake up and as soon as he woke up he needed to pee immediately. I know a little more now than i did and I now have a schnauzer puppy and decided to get a cover for the crate so that the sun wouldn't wake up the puppy too early and hopefully I can wake up before she does and catch her before she pees. ... Anyway I am hoping to find out what you did to solve your problem. Please post an update!!

What I have done with my 9 week old Belgian Malinois pup is she is in a SMALL crate at night. Big enough for her to lay down in but not much else. She has yet to potty in her bed crate. You need to learn the signs for your pup and watch them carefully to see what there potty signals are. Mine will whine but she gets very restless in her crate when she has to potty. If she’s just wanting attention she just whines. Hope this helps
