Chewing on tether

I try to keep my puppy tethered near me when we are in the house.  However, twice now he has chewed through the nylon leashes I was using.  Recently, I went to the hardware store and made a tether using some light chain and a couple S-Biner carabiners.  This is useful information that might be helpful if included somewhere in the modules.  Also, are there any other techniques to discourage of passive chewing on the leash?

you mean in seconds a puppy bit through a nylon leash? huh? you must have a puppy that's half shark! LOL!

I guess I have a question for you: when you say tether, you mean the leash is attached to you all the time? If the pup just constantly chews on the leash maybe you need to use a negative marker like "Nope" and when the pup's not chewing it, then you mark that with "Yes!" Watch all the free videos and articles Ed has on using markers in training.

you really can only blame yourself if you are not watching the pup 100% of the time, if you can't really watch the dog then put it in the crate or playpen.

Good luck with little Sharky!

Hi Sebastian,

you need to watch your puppy and catch him/her in the act when he/she chews on the leash... you then need to give an appropriate correction to stop this behaviour.

- This can be a slight pop on the leash as you say a stern "no" or "nope"

- You may need to give the pup a slight nudge with a verbal no.

You can only judge what level of correction is needed based on the temperament of your dog
