I was wondering if there is a way to make traveling in a vehicle while crated more safe for the pups? I get worried they can get slammed around if there were an accident. Right now I have them in separate crates in the back seat of an SUV, wedged between the front and back seatbacks. Thanks.

Hi Christine,

The crate is the safest way for a puppy to travel in the vehicle. I have seen the results of vehicle accidents where dogs were contained in a crate vs riding free in the car. I had my own unfortunate experience of being in an accident. While my dog did get throw around a bit. He was safe and secure in his crate. The other car also had a dog that was riding free. The dog panicked and ran from the scene of the accident. I do not know if they ever found their dog. My recommendation is to always have your dog ride in a crate.
