The training was easy to understand and opened me to a new concept and methods of dog training. I was trained during my career as both a handler and trainer to use correction based training relying on compulsion, dominance and physical corrections. I see how that method could adversely cause fear, aggression, and or anxiety in the dog.
Training with food instead of force builds a better bond and stronger trust between the handler and dog. The dogs appeared more engaged and attentive to the handler using food reward. The dog has a more pleasant experience with the handler/trainer because the chances of a confrontational interaction is mitigated. The physical discomfort from force has been replaced by negative punishment (not getting the food item).
I loved the videos because they were "real world" with actual students of various levels in the training. The videos highlighted both proper and improper technique used by the handlers respectfully with clear explanation of both. I appreciated seeing the training methods applied to various breeds clearly showing how effective the use of food based reward is. I enjoyed that modules and segments were short enough to keep my attention but long enough to thoroughly cover the topics. As a new student to the food training method I felt the course overall was well put together and I'm not sure what needs to be added or improved. I look forward to the next course!
