So, you got a new dog and want to begin training but don’t know where to start. You have probably scoured the internet looking for information, which can be overwhelming. And when I say overwhelming I’m referring to both the amount of information out there as well as the information itself.
Dog training does not need to be overly complicated. Many of our DVDs and online courses go in depth on the theory and behavioral science behind the methods we use. However, the vast majority of dog owners are not looking for an advanced education in dog training. Most people want a digestible amount of information that they are able to implement with their dog. If you are reading this and fall into that category this is the perfect course for you.
We are going to take some concepts that are derived from our more advanced dog training concepts and simplify them so that anyone and everyone can understand exactly what they are doing and why. The goal is to give you enough information to be successful training. Without overwhelming you with a ton of complicated jargon and long winded lectures on learning theory.
This is not going to feel like a college level behavioral science class. My goal while putting this together was to make it feel like a casual conversation between friends. I am going to give you the tools and information that you need to know in order to train a well behaved and well-mannered dog. Most importantly the training is going to be fun. Dog training should be a fun hobby for you and your family. It should not feel like a chore. And more importantly you should not feel so overwhelmed that you give up after the first week.
The course is going to give you the basic skill set needed to communicate with, and train your dog. We are going to start by establishing a communication system with our dogs. This will be accomplished through a concept known as marker training.
Once you understand the communication system, and more importantly your dog understands the system, we will move onto what I consider the most important behavior any dog can know: the recall. We will break down the training for a solid recall into a simple step by step process. By the end of this course your dog will come when called despite outside distractions.
After our dogs understand the communication system and the recall, we will dive into training a few simple behaviors. In this course, we are going to train a sit, down, between the legs, and place or "go to bed". You will also learn how to add duration to these behaviors which will develop into a stay. We will then cover the proper introduction and use of a crate. The last exercise we will cover in the course is loose leash walking.
This course as the title suggests is an introductory course. Each of the concepts in this course could be, and some are, DVDs and courses on their own. With that said I have left nothing out. You will have all the information you need. However, for those of you who would like to dive deeper down the rabbit hole I will recommend additional resources throughout the course.
If you want to take the first step in a fun new hobby, or simply want to train Fido how to listen and behave this course is going to be perfect for you.

"First impressions, I think this course is great. It is well organized with step by step instructions. I like that it has a structured plan for training that can also easily be tweaked for a specific dog or owners availability. The price is also very reasonable and I will be suggesting it to friends.
Before this course I purchased the streaming video Raising Your Puppy with Micheal Ellis, I found that video to be very informative and gave me a good base on why we train the way we do, however there wasn't much on the actual steps we should take, the amount of time we should train each day etc. So this course really supplements that well and is at a price point I could swallow after making the streaming video purchase.
Today was my first day of training sessions and it is going well because I have a general idea of what I am doing and what to expect."

"I thought it was really good very easy to understand and affordable. I've taken several of your courses before but I wanted to take this one to sort of reinforce some things and I found it very easy to follow and implement. I Especially thought the part about communication was good how to be very clear in your communication with the dog."

"I found this course to be fantastic. Thank you so much for providing it. I loved the use of Charlie as a demonstration dog who didn't already know what you were asking of her. I found this as a great starting point for building better engagement with my Rottweiler Angus who already knows sit, down, stays and recalls but can be quite easily distracted. The between is something new for us and we are still currently working on it. The use of marker words is a new concept to us both as well but is working a treat, especially when he is free and I want him to leave the house or the paddock (somewhere he doesn't want to leave) all I have to say now is Angus "YES" and he comes over straight away. No negatives that I can think of as I found the course to be very informative and easy to follow."
